Has worked   as Research  Medical officer  for ICMR- projects -Headed by  Prof. J.C.Bhatia  of IIM- Bengaluru.

Dr.Veena Bharathi , a resident of Bengaluru since 37-years, is a noteworthy alumnus of Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute. She is well known among Medical fraternity as a Medical and Science writer, both in Kannada and English. She is being appreciated for her excellent communication skills both in the technical field,also for reaching out to the readers from general public, especially through the stories which reflect humanity and compassion.

Very early in her life Dr. Veena Bharathi was inspired by Dr. Anupama Niranjana , the lady doctor who was a distinguished Kannada writer. Dr. Veena Bharathi was also inspired to profile and write about Movie stars and actors , since her father was the first Movie-theatre entrepreneur in Chamarajanagar ( 40 miles from Mysuru ) in the early 1960s.

Impact of the Work Done

The aim of the articles written by Dr. Veena Bharathi have been to display how ordinary people have left a lasting extraordinary footprints in the society overcoming obstacles, going beyond the call of their duty. These have been captured in the book “Ordinary feet, Extraordinary Feat.” Some of the articles have made their way into textbooks, mainstream media to spread awareness and inspire people. She has promoted the concept of organ donation for the needy by writing articles about Usha Gowri- the first cadaver donor in Karnataka ( 1999 ) and about the unique kidney donation by a doctor to his doctor colleague in THE WEEK magazine(2012). She has also striven to create awareness and bring into focus the trauma of child sexual abuse by researching and writing on POCSO law. Dr. Veena Bharathi’s article on Ranjana Ramachander of the haemophilia society in Bangalore has got selected for the textbook published by Nursing Council of India to bring awareness about a genetic disorder.. The article on Flight purser Neerja Bhanot (published in 1996-  Deccan Herald) has inspired many youngsters to emulate the brave qualities of Neerja – the air hostess who gave up her life to save hundreds of passengers of Hijacked Pan am 73 flight in 1986.

Dr. Veena Bharathi has got the unique distinction of being a reputed bi-lingual (English and Kannada) writer for over 30- years. Her focus has been on profiling inspirational personalities, especially women achievers who have gone beyond the call of duty. She has profiled noteworthy people, most of them women achievers whose saga has inspired other women to face similar life crises. She has profiled Dr. H.Sudarshan- The tribal Messiah and founder of Vivekananda Girijana kalyana Kendra ( Winner of The Right Livelihood award) and many other luminaries.

Dr.Veena Bharathi has striven to bring into focus relevant social and ethical issues such as child sexual abuse and the POCSO law, female foeticide, PTSD ( Post traumatic Stress Disorder ) and mental trauma of victims of sexual assault. Dr. Veena Bharathi was the first lady intern, who worked for the Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra Hospital at B.R. Hills, 200 Kms from Bengaluru. She worked to create health awareness for the welfare of the Tribal people of B.R. Hills. She has also held health awareness camps and free medication distribution sessions for economically under privileged slum women in Bengaluru. Of the 380-published profiles of various personalities written by Dr.Veena Bharathi, 17-emulation-worthy profiles were compiled and brought in book form titled – Ordinary Feet, Extra Ordinary Feat. She has written the Biography of Environmentalist, Kannada Film Actor/Director Shri. Suresh Heblikar, titled “Live With Dreams”  Published by Sapna Ink, Bengaluru. The book which was released in May-2018, got selected for distribution at city central libraries under the Raja Ram Mohun Roy award scheme 2019-2020. Dr. Veena Bharathi has helped the women domestic workers to open the bank accounts and to have health insurance. She also keeps paying for the domestic helps’ health care needs. (e.g. dentures, health screening etc.) She is actively involved in supplying blankets, mosquito curtains, groceries for displaced women who have been given shelter at Shakthidhama in Mysore. She is a regular contributor of groceries for The organization – PREMANJALI-in JP.Nagar-in Bengaluru, where nearly 25-30 slum children are being given free education and food.

Her hobbies : She plays Guitar ,Mandolein and Key board. Her published short kannada Haikus and poems have become famous . She has been a regular speaker at The Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha,Bengaluru.
